About Me

Courtney Lazore is a writer/editor with a passion for writing about BTS, fandom, and Korean history. In addition to creating this website, she has been an active member of the ARMY fandom since early 2015. She is a member of the Bangtan Scholars network and a copyeditor for The R3 Journal. Previously, she served as editor-in-chief for The Kraze Magazine, an editor for Revolutionaries Press, and led Learn Korean with BTS classes at Bangtan Academy.

She works a day job in communications but engages in research and writing in her spare time. In 2020, she presented on BTS at three conferences and co-edited and authored a chapter in I Am ARMY: It’s Time to Begin (September 2020). Her work has also been published in the Asia Marketing Journal, the Quarterly of East Asian Studies, Popcrush, and Dream Glow Magazine (Winter 2021), among others. Currently, she is working on additional BTS-related research projects and a book manuscript.

Courtney earned her M.A. in English and her B.A. in History (East Asia) before completing a four-year Korean language program and earning a certificate in professional editing. Currently, she’s pursuing a certificate in Research Ethics and continuing her self-learning journey (with hopes of future Ph.D. study). You can find her on Twitter @courtneylazore, Instagram @shipsintheharbor, and on her personal website here.

About the Site

This website was created to give me a stable place to put my BTS content (which is sometimes cross-posted to my Medium). Here you will find resources, research, and analyses related to BTS, the Bangtan Universe, and more. I aim to provide quality, interesting content, especially since mass media coverage of BTS is often lacking. There may be some theory posts tied to the BU. I also post some translations and general BTS-related pieces, with occasional posts on issues or resources related to fan studies and culture.

I hope to provide useful information that helps others better understand BTS and their work. Furthermore, I hope that this website helps foster discussion surrounding the group, the fandom, and everything that we have created together. “The BTS Effect” comes from the working title for the book I’m currently writing. I’m also opening up a portion of the site for ARMY story submissions.
